GRAMMY® Award-Winning Legends to Be Recognized in
Shreveport with Ceremony and Special Performance
Shreveport-Bossier, LA – The Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars honored GRAMMY® Award-winning group The Cox Family with one of its most prestigious recognitions on Monday, April 27, 2026, celebrating the group’s lasting impact on bluegrass, gospel, and country music and their deep roots in Northwest Louisiana.
The recognition comes as part of a week of celebration for The Cox Family. On Wednesday, April 29, they will take the stage at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium — the historic home of the Louisiana Hayride — as the opening act for longtime collaborator Alison Krauss, bringing their story full circle on one of the most iconic stages in American music.
Deep in the heart of Webster Parish, in the small community of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, a musical legacy was quietly taking root — one that would go on to earn the highest honors in American music. The Cox Family, a multi-generational ensemble known for their soaring harmonies and rooted authenticity, has become one of the most beloved acts in American roots music history.
The group was founded by Willard Cox, a Cotton Valley oilfield worker whose passion for music led him to form the family band in the early 1970s alongside his wife Marie and their children. Their sound — blending traditional bluegrass, gospel, and classic country — built a loyal following across Louisiana and beyond.
Their national breakthrough came with their 1994 collaboration with Alison Krauss, I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, which earned a 1995 GRAMMY® Award for Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album. They also contributed to the GRAMMY-winning project Amazing Grace: A Country Salute to Gospel and received a nomination for their album Beyond the City.
In 2000, The Cox Family reached an even broader audience through their contribution to the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? — a cultural phenomenon that topped multiple charts and introduced traditional American music to a new generation.
Today, the legacy continues through Sidney Cox and his daughters — Anna, Sara, and Lydia — carrying more than 70 years of musical tradition forward. Their music remains as resonant as ever, with recent releases continuing to chart and connect with audiences across generations.
Known for their shared-DNA harmonies and commitment to acoustic purity, The Cox Family represents what many have described as “pure American music” — an organic blend of folk, blues, country, and gospel rooted in faith, family, and Northwest Louisiana.
Their induction into the Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars recognizes not only their musical achievements, but also their enduring legacy as ambassadors of the region’s cultural heritage.
