Whether you’re a new resident of Shreveport-Bossier or you’d just like a little help getting to know the community, the Be a Fan of Shreveport-Bossier Ambassador Tours are a fun, wallet-friendly way to visit a half-dozen or so local attractions in one whirlwind of a day. These quarterly tours are hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, and each tour has a unique theme tying all of the stops together.
The next tour, “Weird and Wonderful,” will be held, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The tour will include stops at The Strand Theatre of Louisiana (where guests will have an exclusive backstage experience), Logan Mansion, Sci-Port Discovery Center, Oakland Cemetery, Bayou Axe Co., and BeauxJax Crafthouse. Bus transportation will be provided by Sportran. Tickets are $25 each and include lunch from BeauxJax Crafthouse in Bossier City. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Grab yours here.

Each of these tours begins and ends at the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s Downtown Shreveport Visitor Center located at 629 Spring Street, just across Crockett Street from Festival Plaza. At the conclusion of each tour, participants return to the Downtown Shreveport Visitor Center where they officially “graduate” to become ambassadors for Shreveport-Bossier, receiving a certificate and an enamel pin to prove their expertise in all things local.
The Nov. 12 tour will make several interesting stops, but a definite highlight is the backstage tour of The Strand Theatre of Louisiana. Opened in 1925, this beautiful venue is the Official State Theatre of Louisiana. During a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue, participants will get to walk onstage and will be escorted backstage to see “the kissing wall,” a wall that performers have traditionally kissed for good luck.
“Locals and artists who step on the stage and look out, and see just how stunning she is, that’s when the cameras come out and we hear the gasps,” said Jenifer Hill, executive director of The Strand.
