Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana, is poised to make waves once more at the 2024 Tournament of Roses Parade® in Pasadena, California. This time, the spotlight will be on none other than the legendary guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, James Burton. As the representative on the Louisiana float, Burton embodies the soul, style, and distinctiveness of these vibrant cities.

"Shreveport-Bossier is thrilled to be back at the Rose Parade, celebrating our cities' unique essence," expressed Stacy Brown, president and CEO of Visit Shreveport-Bossier. "And who better to epitomize our musical heritage than James Burton!"

2024 Rose Parade Louisiana Float

Burton's journey began in Shreveport, where, at the age of 14, he stumbled upon a '53 Fender Telecaster, igniting a phenomenal career. From composing the iconic "Suzie Q" to gracing stages alongside music legends like Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley, Burton's distinctive guitar style has left an indelible mark on the realms of Rock 'n' Roll and Country music.

His influence extends beyond his performances, resonating across generations of guitarists who regard him as a true musical virtuoso, a guitar maestro, and an influential figure. His collaborations span a staggering array of music icons, from Frank Sinatra to Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan.

"It's an honor to represent Shreveport-Bossier and Louisiana at the Rose Parade," Burton shared. His commitment to music education and community outreach through the James Burton Foundation further amplifies his impact, donating guitars and fostering musical education in schools, hospitals, and among veterans.

Accompanying Burton in this grand celebration will be his grandchildren, Skylar Blythe and Taylor Burton, both seasoned performers who've shared stages with their grandfather worldwide. One will ride alongside Burton on the float, while the other will walk the parade route—an intergenerational display of musical talent and family legacy.

Adding to the excitement, Burton's signature fiery red paisley flames on his Fender Telecaster will see a new rendition with blue paisley flames, signaling the imminent release of a new signature guitar.

The 2024 Rose Parade® promises a spectacular showcase as hundreds of entries grace the 5.5-mile route, captivating audiences with their artistry and stories. Broadcasting live on major networks, the parade becomes a stage for Shreveport-Bossier to shine brightly on January 1st, 2024.

As Shreveport-Bossier, a metropolitan area of around 350,000 residents, prepares for this grand occasion, the enthusiasm for showcasing our cultural richness and musical heritage resonates deeply. The 2024 Rose Parade® will not just be a celebration of music but also a testament to the enduring legacy of a guitar icon and the spirited essence of Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana.
