Megan Hailey Stovall, who locals may know as the chef behind meal prep service Prepped Up Meals, has opened Tempo Eatery SBC in the restaurant space located inside of Shreveport Downtown Airport (1550 Airport Drive, Shreveport). The brunch and lunch spot offers a streamlined menu of salads, sandwiches, entrees, and daily specials. Stovall has given the bright, inviting space a modern look with colorful furniture that complements the floor-to-ceiling windows and overall modernist design of the airport.
While the menu is relatively small, it’s diverse. There are chicken and waffles, burgers, a low-carb shrimp scampi served over zucchini noodles, a BLT sandwich, and a kids menu with the requisite grilled cheese and chicken tenders. Stovall, who is owner and executive chef, has created a healthy eatery that will also please folks who are looking for something more indulgent.
That’s where menu items like the “Phillin’ Myself Philly” ($15) come into the picture. While this Philly cheese steak sandwich appears to be a daily special, it had been offered by the restaurant several times in the two weeks that they’d been open on the day of my visit. Made with organic, grass-fed ribeye (lots of the kitchen’s staple ingredients are responsibly sourced, from free range eggs to organic bison), the sandwich is fancier than your average cheesesteak. And, yes, it’s $15, but it’s also really delicious. The low-carb shrimp scampi ($15) is also very good.
Personally, I feel like the price point is justified by the quality of ingredients used, but I’m sure there will be those who don’t share that opinion. There is, for example, a $16.50 order of meatloaf, but the list of ingredients is sort of eye-popping: organic bison, ground sirloin, a free range egg, homemade blackberry barbecue sauce, smoked Gouda and more. One of these days, I’d like to treat myself to that meatloaf, which makes the first time that I’ve aspired to eat meatloaf.
