AMIKids Caddo and Workforce, a workforce development school, prepares students for successful careers. Career Day connected students with local leaders, emphasizing the opportunities available through technical schools and certifications beyond high school and offering a glimpse into their potential futures.
During the event, six Chromebooks sponsored by Prolec/GE, were awarded to standout students, or “rising stars,” who demonstrated curiosity and asked insightful questions. This incentive aligns with the mission to inspire young people and equip them with tools for workforce success.
“We are excited to partner with AMIKids Caddo and Workforce. to provide these students with hands-on exposure to different industries and career opportunities,” said Karen Barnes, VP of Destination Development at Visit Shreveport-Bossier. “Our goal is to show them that success comes in many forms and that technical certifications and skilled trades offer a world of opportunities right here in our community.”
This initiative also reflects insights gathered from Visit Shreveport-Bossier’s 2022 resident sentiment survey, where over 1,000 residents expressed a desire for a more connected community focused on local opportunities. Residents value community pride, safety, and economic development, particularly through career and workforce growth. By engaging students with local industry leaders, Career Day fosters the unity and opportunity residents envision for Shreveport-Bossier’s future, giving young people a chance to build meaningful careers that contribute to the area’s growth.
