Pumpkin Patches
What’s fall without a visit to a pumpkin patch to embrace the orange fruit’s singular charm? DixieMaze Farms is the perfect spot to get ready for the trick-or-treaters and Halloween festivals with pumpkin picking, hayrides, and games. Another one is The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier’s Pumpkin Patch, which is open the entire month of October with plenty of activities.
Corn Mazes
Adventure seekers will enjoy honing their navigation skills wandering through a skillfully created corn maze. DixieMaze has you covered with their carefully laid out trek through a field of green, especially on Halloween when they add a spooky twist to the meanderings. DixieMaze Farms has exciting festivities running through November 2. Such as, their epic haunted trail & corn maze, tractor train rides for the kids, delicious food vendors, and movie nights in the field. Talk about some serious fall fun for the whole family.
Farmer’s Markets
Fall is the ideal time to explore Shreveport-Bossier's bustling farmers markets, where you’ll find fresh, local produce and fall-inspired goodies. The Bossier City Farmers Market is open on Saturdays through late November, with over 150 vendors selling everything from pumpkins, locally grown produce, honey, baked goods, handmade crafts, and artisan products. It’s a great place to shop for seasonal favorites and support local vendors while the kids enjoy fun activities such as face painting, bounce houses, and art classes. Fall Markets at Provenance Town Center on October 3rd, GloFests at the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the first Friday of every month, and the Bossier City Makers Fair on October 12th are more great places to shop local food and craft vendors in Shreveport-Bossier.
Fall Foods & Drinks
One of the best things about fall is indulging in the comforting seasonal flavors inspired by cooler temps. Shreveport cafes, restaurants, and coffee shops will be rolling out autumnal foods, treats, and drinks. Rhino Coffee, a local favorite with three locations, will serve pumpkin and cinnamon brews in addition to their usual excellent blends. Classics & Coffee Car Show at Coffee on the Red on October 19th is a great way to spend your fall weekend browsing classic cars and trying delicious seasonal drinks. PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans will certainly have special items on the menu for fall also.
Now for the main course—there is absolutely no dish in the world that yells “Fall” like gumbo! This savory, rich concoction is the classic, cool-weather Louisiana dish that just seems good when a chill hits the air. Some local favorites for gumbo are Marilyn’s Place, Abby Singer’s Bistro, BeauxJax Drafthouse, and Orlandeaux’s Cafe.
